Working Woman is my most critical work of art, created in 2020. During the peak of the pandemic and the insurgence of protests against police brutality and racial injustice, I thought it important to represent the role of Black women through it all. I painted the subject from direct observation and altered recurring images of her using a blurred technique which demonstrates her motion figuratively and literally. Black women were and always have had to juggle many things; from emotional, physical, or societal. Somehow, through it all, our poise is always maintained.
